Becoming a resource family parent in New Jersey — the state's term for foster parents — means giving a child a safe, stable home when they cannot remain with their own family. Being prepared for a medical emergency, through recognized first-aid and CPR training, is part of caring for a child in placement.

急救要求

In New Jersey, the Department of Children and Families licenses resource families, and its emergency-preparedness standards require caregivers to be ready to respond to a medical emergency; a current CPR and first-aid certificate covering adult, child and infant is commonly required by the Department and its agencies before a placement. It ensures caregivers can respond to injuries, choking and cardiac arrest.

This is recognized by the Department of Children and Families (DCF) and must be kept current from a recognized organization. It is one requirement in addition to the home study, background checks and the assessment of parenting suitability.
