New Jersey follows federal OSHA (29 CFR 1910.151(b)) for private employers and the equivalent PEOSH standard for public employees: no fixed first-aider-to-worker ratio, but when no infirmary or hospital is in near proximity, employers must ensure adequately trained first-aiders are on staff. OSHA guidance expects at least one trained responder per shift, reachable within 3-4 minutes at high-hazard sites.

New Jersey's Manual of Requirements for Child Care Centers (N.J.A.C. 3A:52) requires at least two staff members with current first aid and CPR certification present at all times whenever enrolled children are present. Certification must be initiated within 90 days of hire and completed within one year, then renewed every two years, under the Department of Children and Families, Office of Licensing.

Under the New Jersey Good Samaritan Act (N.J.S.A. 2A:62A-1), any person who in good faith renders emergency care at the scene of an accident or emergency is not liable for civil damages, except for gross negligence or willful misconduct. AED immunity is separately provided at N.J.S.A. 2A:62A-27.

The New Jersey Board of Nursing (Division of Consumer Affairs) requires registered nurses to complete 30 contact hours of continuing education every two-year renewal cycle, including 1 hour on opioids and 2 hours on end-of-life care. BLS is generally an employer/hospital requirement rather than a licence condition, and provider-accredited advanced courses such as ACLS or PALS can count toward CE.

In New Jersey, assisted-living residences, personal-care homes and home-care agencies expect care staff to hold CPR and first-aid training; the Board of Nursing's mandated 76-hour Certified Homemaker-Home Health Aide (CHHA) curriculum includes CPR. A recognized, up-to-date certificate meets this requirement, in addition to occupational training, and must be renewed periodically.

In New Jersey, the Department of Children and Families licenses resource families (foster parents), and its emergency-preparedness standards require caregivers to be ready for a medical emergency; a current CPR and first-aid certificate covering adult, child and infant is commonly required before a placement. It is one requirement in addition to the home study, background checks and parenting-suitability assessment.

Online CPR and first aid training is recognized in New Jersey, with Federal OSHA and the PEOSH program accepting blended training (online coursework plus an in-person hands-on skills demonstration) for workplace first aid and CPR. There is no ban on online training; online-only theory is discouraged only where practical skills such as CPR cannot be demonstrated, and certification is valid for 2 years.
